> Reigning World and Olympic champions Germany extended their unbeaten streak against reigning European Champions England in CT competition to three by winning the opening match at Melbourne 2009 (3-2). > Christoph Menke (GER) scored the opening goal of the tournament. It marked the first ever Champions Trophy goal for Menke who is participating in his sixth Champions Trophy tournament. > James Tindall became the first England player to score at a Champions Trophy tournament since Mark Pearn on 11 November 2001. > Jan-Marco Montag (GER) scored his 11th career CT goal. He has now scored six straight CT tournaments since 2004. > Ashley Jackson (ENG) converted a penalty corner to draw the score level. > Germany captain Maximillian Müller scored the winning goal by converting a penalty corner, his first ever career CT goal.
